Shelly Smart Plugs

What this page is

Devices → Shelly holds the list of Shelly plugs the app is allowed to switch and the limits each one obeys. The header states how it reaches them: "Local control of Shelly plugs over your home network — no cloud, no Shelly account".

How to set it up

1. Read the red note at the top first: "Viewers get a physical switch in your home. Never plug in heaters, irons, chargers or anything unsafe to leave running unattended. The duration limit and the plug's own auto-off timer lower the risk — they do not remove it."
2. Put the plug on the same Wi-Fi as this computer using the Shelly app — the same router, and not the guest network. The How to connect a plug block on the page walks the same five steps and can be folded away.
3. Press Scan network. The button reads "Scanning…" while it works, then Found on the network appears: address, model, Gen1 or Gen2+, and "password set" for a plug that asks for one. Press Add beside yours; one already in the list shows Already added. The line "Scanned {count} addresses in {subnets}" says where it looked — read it when nothing turned up, because a plug in a neighbouring network had no chance to answer.
4. If the scan finds nothing, Add by address opens an empty card for the address you take from the Shelly app.
5. Reserve that address for the plug in your router — "it is usually called DHCP reservation or static lease". Without it the router may hand the plug another address in a few days, "and the button here will stop working for no visible reason".
6. Press Edit on the card and fill it in: Name, Address on the network, Generation — Gen2 / Gen3 (Plus Plug S, Plug S Gen3) or Gen1 (Plug S, Shelly 1, 2.5), which the scan fills in and which is worth touching "only if the commands do not work" — and Channel, where "a plug has one channel — leave 0".
7. Max duration, sec — a ceiling from 0 to 3600, sixty on a new card: "a scenario asking for more is cut down to it. 0 means no limit".
8. Pause between triggers, sec — also 0 to 3600. "A command arriving sooner is ignored. Protects against a series of donations in a row."
9. User and Password — needed only if you set a password in the plug's own web interface; the user stays "admin" unless you changed it there. A stored password is never shown back, the field only reports "Password saved — type a new one to replace it".
10. Press Save, or Cancel to drop the edits. The address is required — without it you get "Address is required". When the address is new, the app asks the plug which generation it is and corrects the field itself.
11. Press Test: it turns the plug on for three seconds, and the plug should click and go off by itself. Off switches it off right away.
12. The badges on the card report the plug: "no data yet", "not responding", "ON" or "off", and the wattage where the plug reports it.
13. Then wire it to an event, as step five on the page says: open Scenarios and add the Smart Plug action to a scenario, for example on a donation.
14. Delete asks Remove the plug? first: "The plug itself keeps working — it just disappears from strAImer. Scenarios pointing at it will stop firing."

What it cannot do

• No cloud and no Shelly account are involved, so nothing outside your local network is reachable: a plug on a guest Wi-Fi, at another address or in somebody else's flat will not answer.
• Only Shelly devices. The scan lists what answers as a Shelly, and Generation offers Gen2 / Gen3 or Gen1, nothing else.
• The page has no schedule and no rules of its own. What switches a plug during a stream is a scenario; here you only have Test and Off by hand.
• The limits are per plug, in whole seconds from 0 to 3600. Max duration caps commands that carry a duration and does not apply to "turn on without a timer", where the scenario turns the plug off itself.
• A saved password cannot be read back on this page, only replaced by a new one.
• Power is a badge and nothing more: no history, no graph, no totals for the day.
