Installed separately: this module does not come with the app installer. Open Module Catalog → Add-ons and press Install on its card; until then the app does not have it.
What this page is
Bytey is a 3D robot, a character for Widgets → Mascot. He dances to the sound of your alerts and to clips and media in OBS, thanks viewers in a short line on his screen, and runs on a battery that drains over the stream and charges when someone donates. He is not a page of his own: his editor opens from the mascot list.
He works before you touch any setting. A new Bytey stands in the Classic look and dances to the sound of every alert that has one. An alert with no sound gives him nothing to dance to.
How to set it up
- Open Widgets → Mascot and press Create widget. The Choose a mascot screen opens.
- Bytey's card says Downloads separately. Press Download on it and confirm: the app downloads him, about 12 MB.
- Choose Bytey and press Create widget. His editor opens: sections on the left, the preview in the middle, the fields of the section on the right. Everything you change is written by Save.
- Look, Colors, Accessories and Body finish build him. Head, body and feet come from four kits, Classic, Rivet, Drift and Rover, and can be mixed. The feet decide how he moves: Classic and Rivet walk, Drift hovers, Rover rolls on tracks.
- Dance and music sets the Dance style (picked by the music or fixed by you) and what he dances to. Dance to alert sounds has its own list of alert types. Dance to sound from OBS is on from the start: he hears browser sources in OBS, such as clips and media requests, when their Control audio via OBS box is off. To pick the sources yourself, open What Bytey listens to, press Install plugin, restart OBS and tick the sources; then he hears only what is ticked.
- Camera and lights frames him for your scene. Light effects (spotlights, strobe, particles, lasers) are all off at first, so over your game only the robot is seen.
- Battery. A full battery lasts Full drain time, 60 minutes by default. A donation charges him by its share of Full charge, an amount in your base currency. A channel point reward chosen in Twitch reward or Kick reward brings him a battery: One battery gives up to 40%, 20% by default. Until a reward is chosen, channel points do nothing. At zero he falls asleep and stops dancing; a donation or the reward wakes him. Turn Battery charge off and he is always full.
- Phrases and reactions holds his lines: three ready ones for every event, in the language of the app. Add your own one per line, delete what you do not want, and an empty field means he stays quiet. Restore default phrases brings the ready ones back. Each event has Show on the screen and Display time. Keep lines short: about 20 characters fit without scrolling. React to the voice assistant and React when viewers ask the AI agent show the steps of the AI Stream Agent on his screen.
- Text on the screen sets the font, size, colour and scrolling speed of his lines, Manner and gestures how he moves while he talks, Idle and walking what he does when nothing happens: Do something when bored is on, Walk around when idle is off until you tick it. He walks only in a source wider than 4:3.
- Test Mode under the preview tries everything without a stream: Test donation, Test subscription, Test channel points, Drain battery, Test gesture, Test walk and the rest. Play under the music test makes him dance to an audio file of yours, heard only in the editor.
- Press Copy OBS link and paste it into a Browser source in OBS. Give the source the size shown in Source size under the preview, 1920 × 1080 by default, and he stands in the frame the way he does in the preview.
- In OBS turn on hardware acceleration for browser sources: Settings → Advanced → Sources, the box Enable Browser Source Hardware Acceleration, then restart OBS. Without it OBS draws him on the processor instead of the graphics card, and the dance can stutter or start over.
What it cannot do
- Bytey makes no sound and does not speak aloud. His lines are text on his screen.
- He does not write in chat and does not react to ordinary chat messages.
- You build him from his kits and parts. No field takes a picture or a model of your own.
- Without the strAImer plugin for OBS he does not hear game sound, your microphone or music players, only alert sounds and browser sources.
- Follows, raids and bits come from Twitch. On Kick he reacts to channel point rewards.
- The battery is not stored: it starts full again whenever OBS reloads the source.
- He is rendered with WebGL 2, and a browser source without it shows nothing. If the source stays empty or the dance stutters, see the problem article "Bytey stutters or stays empty".
