What this page is
Widgets → Input is a list of overlays that show the keys and mouse buttons you press. Viewers see them light up in your scene: the whole keyboard, or just the keys that matter for the game you are playing.
strAImer reads the keys itself, not the page in OBS. That is why the overlay keeps working while the game is in front, and why reading keys works on Windows only.
The list
Each row is one overlay with its own layout, its own look and its own link for OBS. A row has an On air switch and the buttons Copy link, Duplicate, Delete and Configure.
- Create widget makes a new one. It arrives with the FPS layout, already working.
- On air off makes that overlay go dark in OBS and strAImer stops reading its keys. The layout and the look stay where they are, so this is the way to pause one without deleting it. The row is marked Off.
- Copy link puts the OBS address of that overlay on the clipboard.
- Duplicate copies the keys and the look into a new row with its own link.
- Delete removes the overlay, and its link stops working — take it out of OBS.
How to set it up
- Open Widgets → Input and press Create widget.
- Pick the keys. Start from a ready layout replaces them in one press: FPS, MOBA, osu!, Platformer, Minecraft, Mouse only or Full keyboard. The appearance stays as it is.
- Add what the layout is missing. Add keys opens a drawn keyboard: clicking a key adds or removes it, and a key you press on the real keyboard works too. Add mouse puts a mouse with five buttons and the wheel on the board, Add mouse movement puts a round pad with a dot that leans the way you move.
- Arrange them in the preview. Click a key to select it, drag it to move it, pull a corner to resize it. A selected key has Width, Height and a field for your own caption, for example Jump instead of Space.
- Press Save. Until you do, the keys you added do not light up in the preview.
- Press Copy link and add a browser source in OBS with that address. Give the source the shape of your layout: the keys fill it to the edge, so a wide source leaves empty space above and below.
- Style it in the sections on the right, next to the live preview. Show every key pressed above the preview lights them all at once, which is how the pressed look is set up without pressing anything.
Letters and games
An overlay that shows every key would show your passwords too. This is set in the Letters and games section, and out of the box the overlay shows everything.
- Only in games hides what you type. Letters, digits, symbols and mouse movement show while a full-screen game, or a game from your list, is in front. Everywhere else they stay hidden, while keys like Shift or Space keep showing. Switch to this before you type anything private on stream.
- In every window is what you get by default. Everything you type and every mouse movement shows on stream, chats and passwords included. If you switched to the safe mode earlier, strAImer asks you to confirm before turning this back on.
- Your games is the list for games that run in a window. Full-screen games are recognised without it. Add a game offers the programs that have a window open right now, so start the game first.
- Games run as administrator hide key presses from ordinary programs. Windows can reveal them to a small helper: press Turn on and confirm the Windows question once. Without the helper such games show nothing.
- While strAImer itself is in front, letters are hidden on purpose, and the page says so. On stream they behave by the mode you picked.
Display
- Show keys later delays the overlay. The slider covers the first two seconds, and the number box beside it takes up to 10,000 ms, for a second PC that lags further behind than a capture card. Use it when the game comes through a capture card: the video arrives late, and without the delay the keys light up before the picture moves.
- Mouse movement sensitivity decides how far the dot travels for the same hand movement.
Your own layouts
Save this layout under Your layouts remembers the keys of the open overlay under a name you give it. Clicking a saved layout puts its keys on the widget you are editing; the appearance stays. A ready layout you never use can be hidden from the list.
What it cannot do
- No gamepad. Keyboard and mouse today.
- No key size setting. The layout is measured from your source: a bigger source means bigger keys, calculated in that source's own pixels. Any gap around the layout is the padding you set in the styling section.
- The pairs of Shift, Ctrl and Alt light up together if your layout has only one of each.
- Nothing is recorded. What strAImer reads goes to your overlay and nowhere else: no file, no history, nothing sent anywhere.
- Windows only. On other systems the page opens but the keys stay dark.
- Antivirus software can block the reading. If the page says strAImer cannot read the keyboard, the reading part of the app has usually been quarantined.
