Sound
- how do i get straimer sound into obs
- obs is on my second pc and the sound stays behind
- my obs has no application audio capture
- where do i put sound files
- the sounds widget page is gone
What this page is
Settings → Sound decides three things: how the sound the app makes reaches OBS, how loud each kind of it is, and which folder the sound files come from. Everything the app plays goes through this page — scenario sounds, alert sounds and the voice-over.
There is no separate sounds widget any more; the app does that work itself. If you already have the old sounds overlay sitting in an OBS scene, it plays nothing while the sound goes through the app, and you can delete that source. Do not keep it *and* add the new browser source below — two copies of the sound page play the same sound twice.
Where the sound plays
The first setting on the page, Where the sound plays, offers two paths. Only one of them is live at a time, so a sound can never be heard twice.
In the app
This is the default and needs nothing switched on: the app plays the sound itself, and OBS picks all of it up with a single source.
- In OBS: Sources → + → Application Audio Capture.
- In the source window pick strAImer from the list and press OK.
- Press Listen next to any file at the bottom of this page and watch that source in the OBS mixer — the meter must move.
In an OBS browser source
The second path exists for the cases where the first one cannot work at all. Switch to it if any of these is you:
- OBS runs on a second PC. Application Audio Capture takes sound from a program on the same machine; it cannot reach an app that is not on that machine.
- Windows is older than Windows 10 version 2004. The capture source did not exist yet.
- OBS is older than 28. Same reason — there is no such source in the list.
On this path the app itself goes quiet and a browser source plays instead:
- Press Copy address, then in OBS: Sources → + → Browser, and paste it into the URL field.
- Width and height can stay as they are — the page draws nothing, it only carries sound. Put the source in a scene that is always live, or in every scene.
- Keep Control audio via OBS checked on it: this source is what your viewers hear.
- Press Listen next to any file and watch that source in the OBS mixer.
Three things are easy to get wrong here:
- Copy the address with the button, do not retype it. The field on screen shows the address without its access key, so a copy made by eye will not connect.
- If OBS is on the second PC, turn the network on first — Settings → Core → Access from your local network. Without it the other machine cannot reach the address at all.
- The Windows system voice does not travel this way. It is spoken by the app and cannot be handed to a browser source, so on this path you hear it and your viewers do not. It only matters when the voice pack is not downloaded, and also when you picked System voices of Windows in the Voices list yourself; see the voice-over section below.
The overlays that still make their own sound
The blanket advice to untick Control audio via OBS on every overlay is wrong for three of them, and following it makes those three silent for viewers.
Most overlays carry no sound at all: alerts, Chat Overlay, Fundraising, Ticker and the auction overlays. The sound you hear from an alert is played by the path chosen above, not by the alert overlay, so the checkbox on them changes nothing either way.
Carousel overlay, Pool bar overlay and Challenge list overlay are the exception — they play their own sound inside their own browser source: the spin clicks, the discount sound, the sound of a finished challenge. Control audio via OBS has to stay checked on those three. Their level is set in the settings of those overlays; the sliders on this page do not touch it.
The volume sliders
Four sliders under Volume: Overall, Sound effects, Voice (TTS) and Alerts. All start at 100% and move in steps of 5%.
They act while you drag, and there is nothing to save. The Save button that used to stand here is gone — set the level by ear while a sound is playing, and it is already applied.
Overall multiplies all of them, so at zero the app is silent whatever the rest say. The final level of a sound is its own volume, times its category, times Overall.
The sounds folder
Sounds folder shows the folder the files are read from. It feeds everything that plays a file — alert cards, scenario steps, the carousel, the pool bar and the challenges.
- Choose folder opens the picker; the path and the list refresh at once, and nothing needs saving. Open folder next to it opens that folder on your computer.
- Files are added by putting them in the folder, not through this page. Only
.mp3,.wavand.oggare read. An empty folder says so: "No sound files found. Put .mp3, .wav or .ogg files into the folder." - If the folder cannot be reached, the path turns red and a line appears under it: "Folder is unavailable or the drive is disconnected:". An external drive that is switched off is the usual reason.
- Files in the folder lists the name, the length and a Listen button. A dash instead of the length means the app could not read the file header — the file itself may still play perfectly well.
- Listen goes out the same way live sound does. While you are streaming, the viewers hear it too.
Alert sounds
A new alert card has no sound file selected. Pick one from the Sound dropdown — it lists the files from the sounds folder with the length of each, and No sound stays as the first option.
The length is worth a glance: Alert Duration (sec) stands in the same panel, and a sound longer than the alert keeps playing after the card is gone.
Voice-over
- Chat is not read aloud by default, and neither are subscriptions. Donations and AI replies are. The rest is turned on under Voice → Voice Over.
- AI replies are only spoken if the AI agent has its own speech option turned on.
- If the voice pack has not been downloaded, the app does not go silent — it falls back to the Windows system voice, which sounds different. That fallback is the one thing an OBS browser source cannot carry, so on that path the stream stays silent while you hear the phrase. Downloading the pack is on the same page and cures it.
- The Listen button next to a voice is not a real test. It plays inside the settings page, at that page's own volume, and passes neither the sliders here nor the output you chose. The Speak button on the test phrase goes the real way.
What you cannot do here
- There is no output-device selector. Sound goes wherever Windows sends it by default; if it comes out of the wrong device, change that in Windows.
- Both paths at once is not offered, and that is deliberate: on one computer every sound would be heard twice.
- Nothing here decides when a sound plays. There is no list of events and no file assigned to anything — the folder, the volumes and the address are all this page holds. Sounds are attached in alert cards and in scenario steps.
- A single file cannot be given a volume of its own here. The alert card has its own Sound Volume, and a scenario step carries the volume for the sound it plays; this page only multiplies them by category.
- The folder path cannot be typed by hand and the address cannot be edited — one is set with Choose folder, the other is only copied.
- The voice-over cannot be switched off from this screen. Turn off the individual sources on Voice → Voice Over, or switch the module off in the catalog.
- The app cannot tell whether the sound reached the stream. Nothing reports that OBS is capturing it or that the browser source is connected, so there is no warning when the stream is silent. The meter in the OBS mixer is the only proof.
